Detailed Itinerary |
Day 1 Istanbul Welcome to Istanbul, the only
city in the world connecting two continents: Asia and Europe.
Our representative will transfer you from the airport to
your hotel. This evening you will meet with your tour leader
- and fellow travellers -, who will brief you on the next
days of our journey. You have the evening free to explore
Istanbul on your own.
Day 2 Istanbul After breakfast we begin to experience
the magnificence of Istanbul. We stroll through the old town
visiting Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, majestic Topkapi Palace
and the Hagia Sophia Museum.
Day 3 Gallipoli Today we depart Istanbul for
Gallipoli. We visit all the important memorial sites in the
region including the Kabatepe War Museum, Anzac Cove, Chunuk
Bair and Lone Pine.
Day 4 Troy, Pergamum, Selcuk After breakfast we head
to the ancient city of Troy, the setting of Homer's epic,
Iliad, involving a giant wooden horse. We then continue to
Pergamum, and the remains of the Temple of Athena, Temple of
Trajan, library and theatre cut into the hillside. In the
evening we arrive in Selcuk.
Day 5 Ephesus, Pamukkale The best preserved ancient
town in Turkey, Ephesus, will be our first stop. In the
afternoon we depart for Pamukkale and visit the ancient city
of Hierapolis, which was the cure centre founded in around
160 BC by the king of Pergamum. Our day continues as we take
in the unusual and beautiful landscape of the “Cotton Castle”.
Day 6 Pamukkale, Dalyan, Boat Trip, Mud bath, Iztuzu,
Fethiye After breakfast we make our way to Dalyan, a
small town in the south-western coast of Turkey, set in the
centre of a broad delta, popular for its natural and
unspoiled beauty. We join a boat trip to visit the most
popular mud bath in Turkey, and we then continue to Iztuzu
beach, homeland of world famous Caretta Caretta turtles.
After a fantastic boat travel we reach Iztuzu sandbar with
fine sand and turquoise sea. In the afternoon we depart for
Fethiye, the “traveller’s paradise” on the Mediterranean
coast.
Day 7 Fethiye, Kayakoy, Trekking to Oludeniz This
morning we set out for Kayakoy, the interesting old Greek
town famous for its stone houses. After visiting Kayakoy we
walk off the beaten track through the mountain paths,
between passes and pinetrees witnessing the impressive view
and scenery of Taurus and the Mediterranean Sea. We then
reach Oludeniz. Besides its spectacular beaches, glittering
waters and breathtaking natural scenery, Oludeniz is also
popular for its water sport activities. Here you can relax
on the exquisite beach or join one of the adventure
activities including paragliding and microlighting. Late in
the afternoon we depart for our overnight stay in Fethiye.
Day 8 Fethiye, Hiking in Saklikent Gorge, Kaputas, Kas
Another active day is awaiting us! After
breakfast we depart for Saklikent Gorge, a popular spot for
exploring within a stunning backdrop. Plunging into crystal
clear, cool pools of water, swimming through narrow passages
and clambering over boulders will be a memorable experience.
We then will make our way to Kaputas, a gorgeous sandy beach
at the foot of the striking Taurus mountain gorge. Kaputas
is considered to be one of the most pristine beaches in
Turkey. We then move on to the fishing village of Kas, a
great base for adventure activities and water sports.
Day 9 Jeep Safari The mountains behind Kas are some
of the most beautiful anywhere in Lykia. The scenery is
dramatic : extensive pine and cedar forest, outcrops of
juniper and plane and varied maquis are topped by the
impressive Ak Mountains; snowcapped until July, thereafter
turning a light red until the Autumn snow. Today we safari
through this magnificent route and discover the awe-insiring
beauty of the Taurus Mountian.
Day 10 Sea-Kayaking in Kekova After breakfast we
depart for Ucagiz and sea kayak on the sunken city of
Kekova. Kekova was once joined to the mainland but it
suffered a series of earthquakes and these geological
influences rendered it a city six metres below the sea. The
area is off-limits to swimmers and divers so kayaking is the
closest you can get to the underwater foundations, walls and
mosaics dating back 2000 years.
Day 11 Kas, Olympos, Antalya Today we escape to
Olympos, a peaceful valley ideal for unwinding on unspoiled
beaches or below towering pinetrees. Olympos is also famous
for its tree houses and trekking & walking activities. In
the afternoon we depart for Antalya, the most popular sea
resort in Turkey.
Day 12 Antalya, Konya, Sultanhan, Cappadocia After a
full week on the Mediterranean coast, today we set out for
mainland Turkey. We stop in Konya to visit the world famous
Mevlana Museum of whirling dervishes and we then make our
way to historical Sultanhan kervansarai. Late in the evening
we arrive in Cappadocia.
Day 13 Cappadocia After breakfast we begin exploring
all the important sights in Cappadocia including the Goreme
Open Air Museum, Cavusin, Uchisar, Pigeon Valley... ending
in a visit to local handicraft manufacturers and learn about
traditional art.
Day 14 Cappadocia, Underground City, Ihlara Valley
This morning we visit the impressive underground city and we
then make our way to the dramatic Ihlara Valley where we
also have lunch. We spend the afternoon in this impressive
valley. We remain in Cappadocia overnight.
Day 15 Cappadocia, Istanbul Today we depart for
Istanbul where we remain overnight.
Day 16 Istanbul Our trip ends after breakfast. Today
you can shop for keepsakes in the old town, visit the
splendid Ottoman palaces or discover its many evocative
mosques. |
