Day 1: Pamplona. Monday July 10. After pitching your tent gather round the campground this afternoon as we meet other tour members and the guide. Listen up for a fast and informal meeting with the leader including registration and a short brief about the adventures ahead and some cultural info. But tonight we celebrate and party by the pool.
Day 2: Pamplona. Sunday July 11. Ready, set, GO! Today we are running in front of bulls that have been let loose on a course of the town's streets, (or watching safety from the sidelines) as the mayhem unfolds before our very eyes. Injuries are common to the participants who may be gored or trampled, so be warned this is not for the faint hearted. The purpose of this event originally was the transport of the bulls from the off-site corrals where they had spent the night, to the bullring where they would be killed in the evening.
Day 3: Running of the bulls. Monday July 12. Watch the runners dressed in the traditional clothing of the festival, this consists of a white shirt and trousers with a red waistband and handkerchief. In one hand, they hold the day's newspaper rolled up to draw the bulls' attention from them if necessary also there are little holes in the barricades so be sure to let the runners through if they need to swerve out of danger!
Day 4:
Running of the bulls, San Sebastian. Tuesday July 13.
After a hearty breakfast we again move to the front lines of the man vs. animal race along the roads. Be prepared for more heart stopping action as you can smell the bulls racing along, and have be a first hand witness of the fates of the men who are not fast enough. When you have had your fill of adrenaline you can step away from the craziness as there is an optional excursion to explore San Sebastian a picturesque tiny town. You will find the streets lined with busy tapas bars and the beach both sides of a historical bridge where you can walk around the small town and drink up the Spanish way of life.
Day 5:
Running of the bulls, Closing Ceremony. Wednesday July 14. Another day to watch the frantic bulls race down the small roads, at the front of all the action. Don’t miss a thing as more bulls are racing to meet the other end, stopping and trampling all in their path. A huge day of crowds and crazed animals and men can really make you work up a thirst, so in the evening we attend a champagne closing ceremony. As we are relaxing and celebrating the finish in Spanish style there is a elaborate and dramatic fireworks display in the evening to mark the end of our wonderful adventure.
Day 6:
Pamplona. Thursday July 15. Our trip will end this afternoon, we say goodbye to our new friends and pack up camp.
