Detailed Itinerary |
Day 1: Cairo.
At the Cairo terminal keep your eyes open for the Travel Talk sign. Gather round in the hotel lobby at 6:00pm as we meet both the other tour members and the guide for an informal meeting.
Day 2: Cairo,
Aswan.
After breakfast we visit the Giza Plateau to explore the world famous pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mycrenos. The afternoon is left to site-see Sakkara; the first capital of ancient Egypt, famous for its step pyramid built by King Zoser in 2700 B.C. This evening it’s ´ALL ABOARD´ the overnight train to Aswan.
Day 3: Aswan Our day starts with the discovery of the High Dam and then a
visit to the Philae Temple (sacred place dedicated to the
Goddess Isis), and then the unfinished Obelisk.
Day 4: Felucca Cruise on Nile. Today we get
back to basics and jump onboard our Felucca sail boat, bound
for the Elephantine and Kitchener Islands on the River Nile.
Our floating Felucca continues north and we pull out the old
sleeping bag for the night on deck while our local captain
makes us at home with locally made meals.
Day 5: Felucca Cruise on Nile. Today we sail
all day long on Nile, watching the beautiful scenery pass us
by and wave to the locals continuing their day of washing,
swimming and fishing. Whilst being absorbed by the culture
we can sit back and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of one of
the greatest rivers on the earth.
Day 6: Felucca Cruise on Nile, Luxor. Today
we visit Edfu and Komombo temples and then we say farewell
to our floating home and disembark. Day
7: Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut, Cairo
After breakfast we depart for the West Bank of the Nile
where our donkey awaits to take us into the Valley of the
Kings through quiet roads with lovely views of the Nile.
Next is our discovery of the magnificent “city of the Dead”
where tombs were carved into the desert rocks, decorated
richly, and filled with treasures for the Pharaoh afterlife.
Rising out of the desert plain in a series of terraces, the
Temple of Queen Hatshepsut is our next stop. Today we also
visit the temple of Luxor on the East Bank of the Nile which
was dedicated to the great god Amun, his wife Mut and their
son Khonsu (the mood god) together represents the Theban
triad. The temple was built on the site of a probable
smaller structure for the god Amun, while the earliest parts
of the temple seen today date from the 14th century BC and
the time of Amenhotep III. In the afternoon we proceed to
the Temple of Karnak, one of the most important religious
centers of ancient Egypt. This evening we will board our
overnight train to Cairo.
Day 8: Cairo.
Our journey continues with a visit to one of the most important museums in the ancient world, the Egyptian Museum houses more than 100,000 relics of Egypt. Today we discover the Citadel of Saladin, Mosque of Mohamed Ali, the Hanging Church and the world famous Kahn El Khalili bazaar.
Day 9 & 10: Cairo, Nuweiba, Dahab.
Relax and unwind next to the sea with all the activities available including swimming, snorkeling, diving, camel treks, jeep safaris and more!!
Day 11: Nuweiba/Taba, Aqaba, Wadi Rum. We depart for Nuweiba or Taba to board the speed ferry to Aqaba, the Jordan’s window to the sea. After checking into our desert camp in Wadi Rum, we join a 2 hour Jeep safari in the desert. This evening we also enjoy an authentic Jordanian dinner in Wadi Rum. After chilling out by the desert fire and sharing experiences with our travel mates under a starry sky, we spend the night in our desert camp.
Day 12: Wadi Rum, Petra. After breakfast we depart for a full day tour in the Red Rose City Petra. We embark on an unforgettable trip on horse back and then by foot ‘til we reach the Treasury. Our local guide will provide us with a brief history of the city, which is one of the greatest attractions in the Middle East. We also visit the Pharaoh's Castle, the Triumphal arch and the Amphitheater. We remain in Petra overnight.
Day 13: Petra, Aqaba, Dahab. Aqaba is strategically important to Jordan as it is the country's only seaport. The town borders Eilat, Israel, and there is a border post where it is possible to cross between the two countries (see Wadi Araba Crossing). Both Aqaba and Eilat are at the head of the Gulf of Aqaba. The town is best known today as a diving and beach resort. In the afternoon we return to Dahab.
Day 14: Dahab, Cairo After spending the day in Dahab, we'll board our overnight coach back to Cairo in the evening Day 15: Cairo. Our trip will end after we say goodbye to our new friends
