Detailed Itinerary |
Day 1 Cairo Welcome to Cairo, the city of
mysterious pyramids and pharaohs, tombs and temples and more
than 6000 years of history. Our representative will meet you
at the airport and transport you to your hotel in Cairo.
This evening you will meet your tour leader (and fellow
travellers), who will brief you about the next few days of
your journey.
Day 2 Cairo The morning is spent visiting the Giza
Plateau to explore the world famous pyramids of Cheops,
Chephren and Mycrenos. In the afternoon we will head our way
to Sakkara, the first capital of ancient Egypt, famous for
its step pyramid built by King Zoser in 2700 B.C. In the
evening we’ll board the overnight train to Aswan.
Day 3 Aswan Our day starts with the discovery of the
High Dam before visiting the Philae Temple - dedicated to
the Goddess Isis - and the unfinished Obelisk.
Day 4 Aswan Today we join a Felucca Cruise to visit
the Elephantine and Kitchener Islands on Nile. You have the
rest of the day free to explore Aswan on your own.
Day 5 Aswan, Komombo, Edfu, Luxor After breakfast we
make our way to the Komombo Temple which was built during
the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. The temple is dedicated to
the crocodile god Sobek and god Horus. We then continue to
Edfu to visit the largest and best preserved temple in Egypt.
The temple is dedicated to the falcon god Horus and was
built over a 180-year period from 237 BC to 57 BC.
Day 6 Luxor, Karnak Today we visit the temple of
Luxor on the East Bank of the Nile which was dedicated to
the great god Amun, his wife Mut and their son Khonsu (the
mood god) - together representing the Theban triad. The
temple was built on the site of a probable smaller structure
for the god Amun, while the earliest parts of the temple
seen today date from the 14th century BC and the time of
Amenhotep III. In the afternoon we proceed to the Temple of
Karnak, one of the most important religious centres in the
ancient Egypt.
Day 7 Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut, Dahab
After breakfast we depart for the West Bank of the Nile
where our donkeys are waiting to take us into the Valley of
the Kings through quiet roads with captivating views of the
Nile. After the donkey ride, we start our exploration with this
magnificent site, “the city of the Dead”, where majestic
tombs were carved into the desert rocks, decorated richly,
and filled with treasures for the afterlife of the Pharaohs.
Rising out of the desert plain in a series of terraces, the
Temple of Queen Hatshepsut will be our next stop. In the evening we board our
overnight coach to Dahab, the activity and leisure centre of
Egypt.
Days 8 to 9 Dahab Two more days to savour the sun,
sand, sea and to enjoy the activities available in Dahab :
windsurfing, sailing, deep-sea fishing, swimming, but above
all, snorkelling and diving. Jeep and camel safaris are also
available in this charming Red Sea resort.
Days 10 El Shahira Desert, Camel Safari, Snorkelling,
Desert Camp This morning we depart for El Shahira Desert.
After a half an hour Jeep drive we reach the 3 pools
snorkelling spot in the south. After snorkelling and lunch
at this fantastic spot we join a Camel Safari towards El
Shahira. After one hour safari we reach El Shahira plateau,
where we watch the spectacular sunset over the Gulf of Aqaba.
Dinner and overnight stay at the desert.
Day 11 Gebel el Bint, Snorkelling, Camel Safari After
breaktast we head to Gebel El Bint on our camels (30 min
ride) for snorkelling at the Red Sea. After lunch we depart
for Valley of Gebel el Bint (30 min Camel safari) where we
remain for another night. Dinner at the sahara.
