Detailed Itinerary |
Day 1: Istanbul.
Friday April 23.
At the terminal keep your eyes open for the Travel Talk representative, as we pick you up from the airport and take you to our Istanbul hotel. Gather round in the hotel lobby at 6:00pm as we meet both the other tour members and the guide. Listen up for a fast and informal meeting with the leader including registration and a short brief about the adventures ahead and some country info. After the welcome has concluded you are free to capture the delights of Istanbul.
Day 2: Istanbul, Gallipoli.
Saturday April 24.
Its time to rest your feet and enjoy the coach drive to the shores of Gallipoli. This morning we sit back and relax, enjoying the amazing Turkish scenery unfold before us, while listening to your music player or just watching the small towns and villages pass. Upon arrival to Gallipoli we visit each of the areas of historical significance including ANZAC Cove, Kabatepe War Museum, Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair. Tonight we get set up to ensure the best position is kept for the Dawn Service and we sleep under the stars in the ceremony area.
Day 3: Gallipoli, Dawn Service, National Ceremonies, Selçuk.
Sunday April 25.
Before the break of dawn we wake and watch as the sun rises over the battle field, and the Dawn Service proceeds. We commemorate in respect and remembrance to the soldiers who lost their lives on this exact day all those years ago. We also attend the National ceremonies and services later in the day, our night is spent in a beautiful town a short bus ride away.
Day 4: Selçuk, Ephesus.
Monday April 26.
The best preserved ancient town in Turkey; Ephesus, will be our first stop. Ephesus is a spectacular ancient city and was one of the seven churches of Asia that are cited in the Book of Revelation. It is famous also, given that historians believe The Gospel of John was written here. It is also the site of a large gladiators' graveyard and famed for the Temple of Artemis (completed around 550 BCE), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Day 5: Selçuk, Heiapolis, Pamukkale.
Tuesday April 27.
Today get ready to be more delighted with what Turkey has to offer both naturally and historically. We head to Pamukkale meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, this is a natural site that contains hot springs and travertines, giving the appearance of terraces made by carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. The ancient city of Hierapolis was built on top of the white "castle" and people have bathed in its pools for thousands of years.
Day 6: Pamukkale, Kervansaray, Cappadocia.
Wednesday April 28.
We leave the Cotton Castles and stop along the way at a small and ancient travellers town, Kervansaray, that was part of the ancient camel and caravan route. Before cars, planes and trains this was one of the major rest stops along the old silk trade road where camels could be fed and tied up, and weary travellers could rest. In the afternoon we depart for Cappadocia, the most astonishing city in Turkey.
Day 7: Cappadocia.
Thursday April 29.
Get ready to be delighted with more of what Turkey has to offer both naturally and historically. The Underground City awaits us! We wake up for breakfast and are located amongst the "fairy chimney" rock formations, in a town in Cappadocia, a historical region of the Nevşehir Province in Central Anatolia. The Göreme National Park (Göreme Milli Parklar in Turkish) was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985 and continues to astound visitors. We also visit Göreme Open Air Museum, Pigeon Valley, Uchisar and Cavusin.
Day 8: Cappadocia, Ihlara, Istanbul.
Friday April 30.
We take our time exploring through the vast and amazing Ihlara Valley. The township is famed for the nearby valley of the same name, Ihlara Valley, which is a 16 km (10 mi) long gorge cut into volcanic rock in the southern part of Cappadocia, following several eruptions of Mount Erciyes. Watch out for the picturesque the Melendiz Stream flowing through the valley. What makes the valley of Ihlara unique is the ancient history of its inhabitants. The whole canyon is honeycombed with rock-cut underground dwellings and churches from the Byzantine period. Today we finally get to sleep on the bus back to Istanbul, or while listening to your music player as we get into Istanbul, look out for the stunning light show that is on every night! The oldest, best and most dramatic buildings are lit up on the sides of the Bosphorus, and the two bridges joining Asia to Europe are spectacular.
Day 9: Istanbul.
Saturday May 01.
After breakfast we begin to experience the magnificence of Istanbul. We stroll through the old town visiting Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, the majestic Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia Museum and the Underground Cistern. Our trip will end after we say goodbye to our new friends, bid you safe travels and check-out of the hotel in Turkey. Important: As the tour finishes around 1.30pm please book flights accordingly.
